Refugees..

Some perspective..

2003, Iraq, forget WMDs, Saddam is “Killing his own people!” He had been for years and years before this with no action taken but under the pretext of 9/11 and WMDs, US and UK forces go in.

2011, Libya, Gaddafi is “Killing his own people!” So off we went to protect the civilians from their own Government Forces.

2014, Syria, Assad is “Killing his own people!” So off we went again to protect the civilians from their own Government Forces. We are still carrying out military action today in Syria, it didn’t stop just because the BBC stopped reporting it.

2014, Ukraine.. nothing even though the Government Forces were “Killing their own people!”

2015, Ukraine.. nothing even though the Government Forces were “Killing their own people!”

2016 – Present Day, Ukraine.. nothing even though the Government Forces are “Killing their own people!”

2022, Ukraine, Russia stands up and says “Enough, they are killing their own people!” And Russia goes in to try and stop it but this time we are told to say, “Oh that’s shocking, it’s an invasion, we have to stop them!” Of course there are other reasons too just like there were for our own invasions of other countries.

Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, collectively known as Donbass, which broke off from the eastern part of Ukraine shortly after the 2014 coup in Kiev, is shelled, has mortars fired at them, bullets fired across the borders, almost everyday, for the last 8 years… and our Governments have said and done nothing.

We created refugees in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria then did little to solve the problem apart from the Syrians. There are war refugees all over the World so why are we now so focussed on one country which itself has had refugees for the last 8 years at least. Why do we have conversations about Ukranian refugees and not simply just refugees in general? Why can we not grow up and stop enabling Governments to make war in our name. No population wants war, only those in apparent control with power we give away.

Let us not allow ourselves to be so blind to the hypocrisy and instead of being partisan with our sympathies, let us consider all the people involved in what are unimaginably terrible sets of circumstances.

..and for those who think they already know all there is to know about Ukraine and the political situation, perhaps you should take the time to watch the Ukraine On Fire documentary..
